DJ Equipment Reviews Stanton M.202

Verdict :
A decent entry-level battle mixer.

Stanton M.202The M.202 is a compact mixer, decked out in Stanton’s slick new styling. The panel layout gives prominence to the fader and EQ controls and the build is impressively solid for its class.

The slick user-replaceable crossfader is a key feature, suitably tailored for scratching, and further benefiting from two-step curve control. The ‘cut’ option is excellent for a £100 mixer, making this a promising option for first-time turntablists.

The headphone socket’s positioning means a straight jack hinders crossfader use, but you can get around this by using a L-shaped headphone jack. Though scratch DJs will love the quick crossfader, beatmixing jocks might prefer to use the tighter up-faders, because with their gradual curve, they lend themselves more to long, smooth segues. The mixer also comes with three-band EQ on each channel.

A microphone channel and fader start facility complete the M.202, the latter making it an obvious choice if you’re using Stanton CD players. If this doesn’t apply, the M.201 is an alternative, identical save for the fader start and crossfader curve features, though for first-time scratch DJs the fader curve undoubtedly makes the M.202 the better choice.

Overall, the M.202 offers value for money, and will certainly be a strong contender among entry-level battle mixers.
