Artist Profiles :: DJ Pod

DJ PodIn 1995, after five years travelling abroad, Martin came to Bristol, bought his first set of decks and started learning to mix with the discipline of his classical guitar training. Within a year he was playing out regularly and in the Summer of 1995 got his first residency at Club #19 in Bristol. It was here that he hooked up with fellow resident Lady Base and Ripsnorter was born!

They were virtually the only straight DJs in Bristol playing what was then termed ‘hard-bag’ and soon Martin was a regular player at Just, Bristol’s only gay club. This led to being recruited by Infamous in the Autumn of ’96, where he gained a solid reputation for leading the crowd on marathon three hour journeys through hard-house and progressive and uplifting trance.

As Infamous and Ripsnorter grew in popularity, so the bookings elsewhere increased.

Martin is totally committed to the underground scene, always looking for fresh sounds and styles and never afraid to take chances, as demonstrated by his guest DJ slots on Galaxy 101FM, Powerjam FM, Storm 103.5FM and radio stations in France, The States and Finland, and his cutting-edge bookings policy for Ripsnorter. The last year has seen him playing more and more free-parties here and abroad - let's hope the trend continues...

Now he finds himself a very busy man, running the Promotions Dept at The Depot, promoting Ripsnorter and other events such as GBH and Five, distributing Out Of Hand Magazine throughout the South-West, writing tracks in the studio and Djing every weekend.
